Summertime!

Sunshine, swimming, beaches, waves and movies! One of my favorite summer pass times is watching movies. And if those movies have songs and dances in it, then you know I’m singing and dancing along. West Side Story, Bye Bye Birdie, Frankie and Annette, Hairspray and That Thing You Do  – what do all these things have in common? Teenagers in the 60’s! This is the inspiration for this fun dance cardio workout routine. Sorry (not sorry), but the twist, mashed potato and monkey need to make a come-back. They are so fun!

Just in case there is ever a casting call where I live for dancing extras in a 60’s summer movie, I want to be prepared. How does one prepare for such an event? The approach is 3 prong:

  1.  Watch above-mentioned movies on a regular basis.
  2. Exercise on a regular basis with an emphasis on cardio dance
  3. Practice choreography from above-mentioned movies

Some of the best summer movies were made in the 1960’s or they take place in the 1960’s! Let’s get in shape dancing like summer will never end, dance cardio workout style! You’ll feel like an extra on the set while jamming out your fave 60’s moves like the Swim, Monkey, Jets, Dives and Bye Bye Birdie! Seriously, I picture myself learning this choreography so I can audition for the next teenage surf movie. The different combinations make it easy to catch on, so be confident in your movement! This fun cardio dance workout definitely is a DANCE CARDIO!

For the stretch, we discuss darkness and light. The best way to battle darkness is not to yell at it or get angry. Turn on the light. Fill your life with light. Cursing darkness or being critical and angry won’t bring joy or peace or light. What light can you fill your day with?

As we intensify our faith in Christ, we receive light in intensifying measure until it dispels all darkness that might gather around us. … May I suggest that perhaps this is the time to ask yourself, ‘Do I have that light in my life? If not, when was the last time I did?’ Just as sunlight daily bathes Earth to renew and sustain life, you can daily brighten the light within you when you choose to follow him (Jesus Christ). A drop of sunshine is added every time you seek God in prayer…
